Happy 10yr Anniversary Her Baseborn Bridegroom!

I had a realisation the other day that this month was a big anniversary for me… This time ten years ago I released my first Karadok book, Her Baseborn Bridegroom!  (The title was a bit more abrasive at that point until Amazon asked me to change it!  If you were there at the beginning you will know what I’m talking about! 😅

Things really changed for me with this book.  I seem to remember I sold six books on the first day and was really super chuffed - that original title really caught people’s attention if nothing else!  Momentum slowly grew, almost in spite of the cover I paid someone to create for me.  (Early reviews did tend to mention the cover quality - or lack of it - a lot!)

I had a vision you see, of a freckled redhead sat in a tower and the only way I could make that a reality was for someone to draw it for me … It did look very cartoony and amateurish but in those early days I was pretty happy with it and I still remember it fondly.  I remember I added the font myself!  Ahh, baby Alice really had no idea what she was doing!

I will never forget being on a train journey to visit a friend, and deciding to check my KDP dashboard.  I nearly passed out!  Never before had I hit such numbers of book sales and the friend I was travelling with thought I had come over faint and advised I put my head between my knees!

I swore her to secrecy and confided in her and she was really happy for me, though I would not tell her my pen name or the title.  In those days, the secret was all mine.

I remember I was stood at a sandwich shop counter waiting to collect my boss’s breakfast sandwich when I noticed the first little orange label next to my book title which said it had hit the no.1 spot for historical romance.  I walked back to the office feeling lightheaded!

It really seems like a lifetime ago now, but it was only ten short years ago!  Little did I realise that Karadok was to grow into such a huge part of my life and that writing would become my livelihood.  Like I said, Her Baseborn Bridegroom really changed things for me.

That first hit really clued me into what readers wanted from me and I never looked back.  Linnet and Mason will always hold a special place in my heart.❤️  Thanks to all my readers and subscribers, old and new.  Without your support, none of these good things would have happened for me.

Love

Alice
