I recently visited the beautiful Cydweli Castle in Wales. Completed in 1422 the surrounding town is ancient, established around 1115AD. The Castle is stunning, mostly ruins but you can still see the structure of how they would have been in their glory days and imagine how the Lords and Ladies and servants lived during their lives here. Once again, whilst exploring Castles of the Medieval era I always imagine my characters experiencing life within the walls!
I was particularly fascinated by the courageous yet tragic story of Princess Gwenlillian who died in battle in 1136 fighting the Lord of the Castle trying to save South Wales from the Norman invaders, I bought a fantastic little book from the series 'Heroes and Heroines of Wales'.
